Boredom Busters

I sat down here yesterday because it’s something I’m used to doing, but I was completely bored. I didn’t really want to work because it was a Sunday and even though I don’t have to, I thought I should take a day off. I could not think of a thing to do.

So I went searching around for some boredom busters. Something I can do on the computer that isn’t working and isn’t blog related, since I do those so much. I found a site that has a lot of computer games. Some of them are pretty cool, too. I like simple games that kill time and stretch my mind, so I opted to check out the Bud Redhead game, since it said it was like Mario Bros. I have a Windows PC (because I don’t like the mac mouse) but they have mac games as well.

My absolutely favorite, though, are RPG games. You all know how much I love Final Fantasy, but they’ve gotten too complex lately. Or, maybe not even complex, but they’re straying from the original RPG style and I don’t like it. So I think I may check out their RPG game, it definitely looks interesting.

Save Money Online

One thing I love about the internet is that you can find anything. Just go to Google and type in what you need. Unfortunately, because some companies have more money than others, you may need to get to page 5 or higher to find the information you need. However, this post isn’t about Google, it’s about Tobi.

You all know about the new online boutique, Tobi. Quite a few blogs have articles about the company and their wonderful velvet apparel, their stylish site, and their live customer chat. But you know me, dare to be different. I spent about a half hour searching this site and Google for an affiliate program. I can tell this company is going to be big and I wanted to get in on it. I didn’t find anything, but what I did find was a discount page that does include some of  their velvet clothes.

If you’re not into velvet clothing, they do have a great selection of other clothes. It seems like all you ever see around is people talking about the velvet, like it’s going out of style. Was it ever in style? Tobi is bringing back the 80’s and some of the clothes are just ‘wow’. Some make me want to throw eggs at the person wearing them.

Shop at Tobi, but choose wisely.

Promote It

Promoting your website is what keeps it alive. Who wants to work on a website when no on visits it? And how can you make money from advertising on that site if there’s no one there to see the ads?

My friend Amanda and I decided to create a mailing list for people who use the same site promotion methods we do. The purpose behind this mailing list is to let others know you’re looking for comments, Stumble, Digg, and Sk*rt. No one is required to do any of this, but it’s about helping eachother and making new friends.

The list is set up with Yahoo! Groups for a specific reason. We chose this because of the ‘daily digest’ option, so you can get them all in one email if you prefer. This isn’t how I prefer to do it, but I know some who do. And I know some people don’t want to sign up with Yahoo! just to join the list, so simply comment here and request and invitation, I will add you to the list without needing to join Yahoo!.

Personal 911 Service

The other day Michael said to me, “Grandma needs life alert.” And of course I gave him a weird look and said, “Umm.. What?” He had seen a commerical for one of those necklaces where you hit the button and an ambulance comes to the door. Since my mom lives alone, he said she should get one. Thinking back, it’s not such a bad idea.

In Canada they have DirectAlert, it’s a medical alert bracelet service created for children, seniors, and people with medical conditions. My mother doesn’t have a medical condition and she’s not quite a senior yet, but she does live alone and no one would happen by to realize there’s a problem.

Dialing 911 is any easy solution to a problem, but what if you can’t find the phone. Cordless phones are terrible for disappearing. This bracelet will make a 911 call for you by simply pressing a button. Then you can communicate with Direct Alert (if you’re concious) until help comes, whether it be an ambulance or a family member. If you don’t answer, they send someone immediately.

I’m considering this for my mother, because I’d like to be notified if something happened to her and I personally don’t think she would call me. She has a thing about not wanting to burden me or something. She doesn’t like to call when there’s a problem, though that’s exactly what she needs to do.

Personalized News?

Can you personalize news? Can you have a news site that can guess what your readers want to see and deliver it? Some would say so. Thoof is attempting to do just that. Thoof lists news from various blog sites (like yours?). Upon entering the front page you see a list of the most recent blog posts from random writers. I’ll admit, they are interesting and well written, which is nice to see. Such a nice change..

Thoof offers no explanation of their personalized news service, leaving you to assume or to join and try and figure it out on your own. But through the wonderment of ‘cookies’, signing up may not even be necessary. The sign up is a simple text form asking for your email address, to which I assume you’ll have to confirm. Then what? I don’t know, I don’t like handing out my email address willy-nilly. I want more. I want to know what I’m getting myself into before the barrage of spam comes.

Handy is their FAQ, however, not as friendly as an ‘About Us’ page. The FAQ explains what they do and why, if you’re interested in reading about a site through a bulleted system. Not I.

To me, this site is like a bit of a mix between Digg and Stumble. Very clever. To make it in today’s blog world you need to be inventive. Or if all else fails, innovative.

Dreamer

Dreamer Layout ScreenshotDreamer is the very first layout to be released by Radkitten. The layout features a bunny character image from Sleeping Co. It is made using tables for the layout structure and CSS for the text formatting and div layers used for the star and banner ad.

It has an optional navigation bar at the top in purple. It can be easily removed.  I’ve included 4 different ways you can list the sidebar content, but feel free to use your own.

Includes a matching 468×60 banner.
New Layout

I put a lot of work and thought into this layout, but I’m sure someone will find an issue with it. As it is right now there are no issues. If you happen to come across a design flaw please comment here. A design flaw means it’s a problem with the code as is, not once you have changed and moved things around. The tables make it about impossible for you to destroy the layout, however, some people have a real talent for it.

This layout is free to download and use. You may not change the design itself, though you may change any of the content. You may not offer this for download on your own site or try to pass it off as your own work. There is an image map in the design itself and a link at the bottom of the content section, both must stay intace if you wish to use this layout. If you cannot do as I ask, do not download it.

If you really like this layout and wish to have pay for it to be removed for download from this site, please contact me. This will not mean no one else can use the layout as others will have, no doubt, downloaded it already, but it will not be distributed any longer.
