Cinco De Mayo

Tuesday, May 5th, 2009

I was compelled to write a “Happy Cinco De Mayo” post, but then I realized I didn’t really know what it was about. So I decided I would go and look it up on Wikipedia. It doesn’t have a whole lot of information, but it lists that the reason for the holiday was because Mexico had faught off the French, who later ended up occupying them anyway. But more interesting, it says that they don’t really celebrate it, not like we do. It explains that we may celebrate it like we do St. Patrick’s Day, OctoberFest, and Chinese New Year, which is to celebrate the ancestory of each respective country.

All I could think while I was reading this was, “American’s are just looking for a reason to drink and party.” It’s true, isn’t it? Does anyone (Americans) really even know why or do they just know it’s time to start drinking and dancing? I will definitely welcome any excuse for people to get together and have a good time, but more and more lately I’m starting to feel like I shouldn’t just celebrate without knowing why. Did you know of the origin of Cinco De Mayo? If not, do you celebrate it anyway?

I found some nifty recipes I thought I’d share.

Frustrated

Monday, May 4th, 2009

I’m sure you can tell I’m very unhappy with this design. I kind of feel bad because I haven’t been working much on the website. I’m not sure what I want to do right now. Nothing on this site is really working out the way I wanted it to. I can’t even think of a nice way to customize it to what I’m looking for. That’s usually how I do it. I may just have to take some time to restart from scratch. Hang with me!
