Wordpress 2.3

Wordpress 2.3 was released today after about a month of beta testing. The developers have been really excited about this release and all the additions they’ve put into it. It sounds like they’ve been working really hard on it.

Do you have Wordpress 2.3? Did you try the beta?
What do you think of it?

Each time Wordpress gets a bit better, I get a little scared. Things always seem to happen to mess up my blog. One time I upgraded and the visual editor stopped working in IE. Another time it added all sorts of random characters into the posts and I had to go edit all of them. I’m looking for some reassurance that this one won’t break my Wordpress.

Oh, and today’s my birthday. *dances + twirls*

Word Count Plugin

The last word count plugin I told you about was a little off. It counted higher than the number of words in the post. I tried another one that counted the words lower. I don’t understand why they’re so wrong, but it is truly annoying.

However, someone has gotten it right. I found a word count plugin that does its job and does it well. I tested it on multiple entries and found it to be right on each one. The only drawback to this is that you can only view the post count after the post has been saved. So if you’re in the middle of writing a post and you want to see how many words you’ve typed so far, simply click ‘Save and Continue Editting’ and then when it reloads the count will be at the top over the title.

Big thanks to the programmer, this plugin is very helpful to me.

Do Follow, Revolution?

It seems a lot of people have switched over to ‘do follow’.

Back in the day before spam protection, Wordpress put in a ‘no follow’ code to all the links. This was so spammers wouldn’t benefit from spamming your blog and, therefore, wouldn’t spam you. Didn’t stop them, did it? They still got the visitors, which seems to be mostly all they cared about.

So now that we have the wonderful Akismet plugin, there’s really no reason for this ‘no follow’ tag anymore. Most people are installing plugins to remove it from their Wordpress completely. I have just installed it to this blog, as well. People are even going as far as to put up ‘You Comment, I Follow‘ banners on their site to let their visitors know how much they appreciate their comments.

Get your own Do Follow plugin for Wordpress.

Wordpress Upgrade to 2.2.2

The powers that be over at Wordpress have released a new version, 2.2.2. Or for those of you who prefer the older version, 2.0.11.

The update is strictly bug fixes and security, so upgrading won’t break any plugins, themes, or whatever else you may be using. Please upgrade as soon as possible.

Fantastico has not yet released the update.

Wordpress Shirt

Wordpress recently released a new wave of shirts, in red.

According to their website when they released their first wave of shirts there were complaints about people outside the United States who wanted to order the shirts, but they couldn’t ship outside of the US. So now they have them in red and they can be ordered from their shop.

Personally I really always considered Wordpress a ‘blue’ and ‘white’ kind of company, so the red shirts just really don’t interest me. But I really do want one. I think $17 is a bit much to pay for a shirt I don’t like just to support an open source script. I do give a lot of credit and thanks to Wordpress, they’re wonderful, but I am going to wait for another color.

Please let the next one be black..

Word Count Plugin

If you like to do sponsored reviews, like so many people do, you might find this plugin handy. I’m not sure what else you would need to know the number of words in a post for.

Over at Lep’s Lair (beware of popups) there is a new plugin for your Wordpress. This plugin allows you to calculate the number of words in a post when you’re done. So when you’re writing a post for a customer or a review for a sponsored site you can easily and quickly see how many words are in the post without having to count each one, like I’ve been doing.

It’s been really handy for me so far. I love it. 119 words in this post.
