I got a new camera today to replace my old one that Jay took to work and lost. My old camera was a Sony Cybershot with a touch screen. I got it so I’d have a camera I can just slide in my pocket and pull out at any opportune time. It was my favorite camera and I took it with me to all the Three Days Grace shows, so it really meant a lot.

So my new camera, the Nikon Coolpix S230 is the only one I could find that also had the touch screen. Best Buy only sold the purple one, and I wanted blue, so I had to buy it online. After shipping and the 4GB SD card, the total came out to $244. That’s a bit more than my Cybershot cost 2-3 years ago. So it comes, I put it together, and start taking some pictures. The screen looks really grainy, but fortunately that doesn’t show on most of the pictures. It does show in the videos, though. We’re still fiddling with the settings, but so far I’m not impressed with this camera. Sony had a better camera for the same price 3 years ago.

Features (according to Nikon):

3 inch LCD Touch Screen

10 Megapixels

3x Zoom Nikkor Lens

Electronic VR Stabilization

Motion Detection

Touch Subject to lock Auto Focus and Exposure

Portait One Touch Zoom

Paint Function w/Stylus

Scene Auto Selector

Smart Portrait System

I would recommend this camera to someone looking for a quick camera for random family photos. It’s very good for still shots, but if your subject moves (like my dog) it’s going to delay the camera in shooting and have a crazy blurry shot. However, I don’t feel like I’ve reached the full potential of the camera yet, so I’ll keep working with it and let you know.

It’s very light weight and very small. It’s shorter than my cell phone, and just slightly wider.
